About The Toy Appeal
It’s unfortunate that there are children and families who find themselves in a situation where receiving or giving a basic gift impossible. This is not the fault of parents, certainly not the child and can be for many different reasons such as social security issues, fleeing domestic abuse, fire, burglary, ill health and sheer poverty. The Toy Appeal 2021 aims to help children and young people aged 0-18 across the U.K. The demand is greater than ever before, especially due to the economic effects of Covid-19.
Can you imagine how that must feel?
This is why the Sikh Toy Appeal was formed back in 2017.
Every year we hear about an increasing number of children and families living under these circumstances, which means the need for toys/learning resources for children and young people ages 0-18 years has grown. They might be a neighbour, a friend or colleagues’ child that wouldn’t receive a present on the most exciting day in any youngster’s calendar – birthdays and Christmas!
As a charity we focus our attention on fundraising and we kindly ask for donations such as toys, puzzles, learning resources and essential items. We appeal to the general public, local businesses and corporate organisations who generously donate wonderful presents or money.
With Covid-19 restrictions over the past year, we have still succeeded in delivering our projects whilst following government guidelines. During the first half of the year, we adapted to the needs of our local communities and distributed food parcels, PPE, activity/educational packs and essential items to vulnerable people. During this time, we also moved to a new and much larger premises to accommodate demand.
Leading up to Christmas we recruited new volunteers to create further channels of collection and distribution across the country. These volunteers were from different areas across the UK such as Southampton, Manchester, Hertfordshire, Kent & London. With everyone’s hard work we distributed over 15,000 toys across the U.K. to those in need and the demand continues to grow.
Throughout 2020, we also continued to support international projects. The first was at the Unique Home for Girls in Jalandhar, Punjab where toys and food parcels were delivered to the vulnerable girls living there. We also teamed up with one of our ambassadors Deana Uppal and her charity the Kindness Diaries Trust to deliver a project at an orphanage in Jaipur, India.
Please support The Toy Appeal 2021 and help thousands of children this year by donating or buying gifts and learning resources.
Together we can make a difference, so let’s make a child smile this year!
